New Media grows as old mediaI've said it before and I'll say it again. Online video marketing is the greatest opportunity available. For a small cost, you can reach your targeted audience with a personalized message.

The quickest and easiest way to take advantage of video online is to learn to create what's known as a simple talking head video. A talking head video is a slang term for someone speaking on camera. You do not have to get fancy with video, a basic and simple video is good enough. Use a webcam or Flip cam to make it easier.

If you need a bit of encouragement to get started, here are the results of some new research from the recent Forrester Research Interactive Marketing Forecast.

As the report says; "Empowered consumers of today expects a customized, interactive brand experience." People expect interactive online communication. Serve them anything less and they will perceive your business as outdated.

Even for business who just need a better local presence and more local customers, believe it or not, the WWW (world wide web) is the best place to find them.

Interactive online marketing, which includes everything from email marketing to using video and social media, is clearly emerging as the new standard. At the expense of traditional media like newspapers, radio, yellow pages and even TV, online video marketing is becoming more popular because it has proven to be more effective and less costly.

Traditional media is dying. Sad but true. Honestly, I hate to see newspapers go because I LOVE newspapers, although they do pile up and just create a big fat mess! New media online doesn't create a mess in the corner and it is more effective to boot. So new media is taking the place of old media. The Forrester report surveyed over two hundred companies and found that, for the first time ever, they are shifting dollars away from traditional media and putting it into interactive media.

Up until now, business owners were sticking with traditional media and creating new budget categories for online media. This year, that has finally changed. A majority (60%) are cutting traditional media ad budgets so they can slide those dollars into their budgets for interactive media online.

The research revealed that most businesses are banking on these top three (in order):

  • Social media
  • Online Video
  • SEO

As I have seen from personal experience, any of those methods will be more cost effective BY FAR than traditional media like Yellow Pages or newspaper ads.

The Forrester Marketing Report showed newspaper readership down another 17% in the past year. Magazines have lost 6% of their readership.

These trends will continue. there is absolutely no turning back the clock. The take-home message is that you need to take advantage NOW and reap the rewards.
